All Thee Power’s impressive victory in Saturday’s 74th running of the California Derby turned bittersweet when X-rays showed the horse fractured its right foreleg and will be sidelined for at least a year.
“I got into this race so I could go to the Kentucky Derby and this takes all the fun out of winning,” said owner Sam Matar of Carmel. “My one goal was to be in the Kentucky Derby, and I thought this was my chance.”
