Roundup : Larson Leads Villa Park to Swimming Win
Greg Larson broke his school record in the 100-yard backstroke as Villa Park High School defeated Buena Park, 120-35, Friday in a nonleague swim meet at Villa Park.
Larson won the race in a time of 54.63 seconds to break his record of 55.64. He also won the 100-yard freestyle in 46.36.
Chad Barker won the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.67) and 200-yard individual medley (2:10.1) for Villa Park (10-2).
In other nonleague meets:
Foothill 88, Tustin 68--Ron Scott won the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.2) to lead Foothill at Tustin. Paul Barrera won the 100-yard backstroke (58.74) for Tustin.
Sonora 100, Esperanza 46--Brian Zeller swam a 23.51 in the 50-yard freestyle to lead Sonora (7-3).
In Sunset League golf:
Huntington Beach 404, Marina 426, Edison 433--Playing at Sea Cliff Country Club in Huntington Beach, Marina’s six-man team improved to 8-0 in league play. Medalists Darren Hubbard (Edison) and Danny Dalton (Marina) each shot 78.
In the Angelus League tennis:
Servite 16, Bishop Montgomery 2--Servite didn’t lose a game in singles play as the Friars clinched the league championship at the Anaheim Tennis Center. Jeff Belloli, Chris Belloli and Jason Chung swept their singles sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 for Servite (13-1, 11-0).
In the Empire League:
El Dorado 13, Esperanza 8--Darin Hicks and Jeff Bailes swept their doubles sets, 7-5, 6-4, 6-3, to lead host El Dorado (10-3, 7-0). Esperanza is 8-8 and 4-4.
In the Orange League:
Valencia 14, Western 4--Colin Robinson and Eric Flint won their doubles sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1 to lead Valencia (15-2, 12-0) at Western.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Woodbridge 18, Orange 0--Randy Ivey won 6-0, 6-2, 6-0 to lead host Woodbridge (15-3, 8-0).
In the Garden Grove League volleyball:
La Quinta 3, Garden Grove 0--La Quinta won, 15-5, 15-10, 15-0.
In the Sea View League:
Newport Harbor 3, University 2--Mike Curci had 31 kills and 7 blocks to lead Newport Harbor (9-3, 7-1) to 11-15, 4-15, 16-14, 15-5, 15-4 victories at University.
In the South Coast League:
Dana Hills 3, Capistrano Valley 0--Brent Hilliard had 14 kills to lead Dana Hills (11-2, 8-0) to 15-7, 15-4, 15-6 victories at Capistrano Valley.
El Toro 3, Mission Viejo 2--Doug O’Brien had 19 kills and 7 blocks to lead host El Toro (5-3) to 15-11, 17-19, 15-11, 15-17, 15-9 victories.
In the Sunset League:
Edison 3, Fountain Valley 0--Steve Rapp had nine digs and three service aces to lead Edison (13-1, 7-1) to 15-8, 15-7, 15-5 victories at Fountain Valley.
Marina 3, Westminster 0--John Ward had 12 kills to lead Marina (11-3, 7-1) to 15-2, 15-13, 15-12 victories at Westminster.
