About 300 people marched on the Indiana University campus and demanded that Knight apologize publicly for his nationally televised statement on rape and stress.

The protesters--carrying signs that said “Rape is Every Women’s Knightmare” and “Rape is no Game”--also called on university administrators to reprimand Knight for the comments he made on an NBC program about stress and to make rape awareness workshops mandatory for sports teams.

The controversy began last week, when NBC broadcast an interview with Knight conducted by Connie Chung, who asked the coach how he handles stress. Knight replied: “I think that if rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it.”

He added: “That’s just an old term that you’re going to use. The plane’s down, so you have no control over it. I’m not talking about the act of rape. Don’t misinterpret me. But what I’m talking about is something happens to you, so you have to handle it--now.”
