Termination notices issued to 35 striking Madera County sheriff’s deputies during a 28-day strike in 1986 have been rescinded, paving the way for full benefits for the affected workers. Sheriff Glenn Seymour rescinded 35 of the 39 termination notices issued by then-Sheriff Ovonual Berkley. The order means deputies were suspended but not fired during the strike, said Barry Bennett, attorney for the deputies. Seymour refused to rescind the termination notices for four deputies who no longer work for the department, said Bennett. “We’re hoping he will change his mind,” he said.
