Hawaiian Gardens : Big-Item Disposal Planned

Hawaiian Gardens officials are working out details of a plan that will allow residents to call the local disposal company to pick up large unwanted items, such as broken furniture and old appliances.

Called the Dial Throw Away program, which would cost the city an estimated $10,000 a year, residents would make an appointment with Cesena Disposal Co. to pick up the large discards. The Dial Throw Away program is the third citywide program in a year aimed at cleaning up the small city’s streets.

Other programs have cost the city a total of more than $61,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant and redevelopment money.
