Local News in Brief : Mail-Order Firm Targeted

Federal authorities in Los Angeles won a court order Wednesday allowing them to seize the mail of a Huntington Beach firm that allegedly sells hydrogen peroxide under the fraudulent claim that the substance cures cancer and arthritis.

The 19-day temporary restraining order issued by U.S. District Judge Pamela A. Rymer gives the U.S. attorney’s office the right to hold all incoming mail for DRK Buyer’s Plan, a mail-order subsidiary of DRK Supplements.

“Incoming mail is the mail that contains the money,” said Assistant U.S. Atty. Brian Kipnis.

The government filed suit against the firm Tuesday, alleging that the mail seizure was necessary to stop DRK’s activities because “persons who use hydrogen peroxide may be allowing their arthritis and cancer to worsen by delaying proper treatment.”

DRK owner Kurt W. Donsbach, of Chula Vista, could not be reached. In addition to his mail-order firms, Donsbach operates a clinic outside Tijuana.
