AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: Paging all early Pink Floyd fans. By Christmas, you should be able to find a collection of PF founder Syd Barrett tracks, titled “Rarities.” The package, which has held up by legal difficulties, is said to include such obscurities as “Milky Way,” “Dark Globe,” “Birdy Hop” and an original version of “Clowns and Jugglers.” . . . Brian Wilson with the Beav? We’re still holding our breath, but the Beach Boys’ eccentric wizard is scheduled--we emphasize scheduled-- to play a music teacher in an upcoming installment of “The New Leave It to Beaver Show.” . . . Wacko comic Bob Goldthwait’s new album, due out by mid-June, is titled “Meat Bob.” It’s slated to feature a just-recorded remake of the Village People’s disco hit, “Y.M.C.A..” Goldthwait says: “If U-2 did a cover of ‘Y.M.C.A.’ it would sound something like this--I feel like I’m merging two major influences in music.” . . . And this Tuesday’s KCSN-FM Barn Dance (from 9 p.m. till the wee hours at the Little Nashville Club in North Hollywood) offers a Rick Nelson Birthday Tribute with performances by Rose Maddox, Billy Swan, the Lonesome Strangers and many more.
