Candidate’s Talk on AIDS Situation
The story (March 24) about congressional candidate Nathan Rosenberg speaking in Irvine about his position on AIDS being protested by “conservative” Young Americans for Freedom evokes considerable emotion.
The event (which I attended) was held in the home of a lovely couple along with their 12-year-old-daughter. It was the first I had heard of in which any of the candidates addressed one of America’s greatest health issues. This issue is of paramount importance to that mother and father, as it is to me--a mother of three children.
Dr. Don Hagan, who serves on the Orange County Medical Assn. AIDS Committee, invited me to attend. He was instrumental in putting the group together. The handful of teen-agers who showed up to protest a discussion on AIDS would have shown their real commitment to this campaign if they had been inside listening to Rosenberg’s proposals to support President Reagan’s Presidential Commission on AIDS and to carry out U.S. Surgeon Gen. C. Everett Koop’s 1986 report on AIDS.
I’m just one of many Republicans who believes Rosenberg cares about our children. He has my unwavering support!
