Ken Easley’s kidney ailment, which the Seattle Seahawks indicate will end his football career, was detected in its early stages two years ago, club President Mike McCormack said.

Seahawk officials maintain they were not aware of the seriousness of the problem, however, and that medical tests at the end of last season showed the condition was stable.

“This was not new to us,” said Dr. James Trombold, a team physician. “The condition was nothing affecting football. There was even a chance it would go away.”
