A late-night tornado touched down in Nebraska without warning, killing a woman and her baby and critically injuring her husband, while thunderstorms moved across parts of the Mississippi Valley and the plains of the Midwest. Two-inch hailstones hit in Omaha and wind up to 60 m.p.h.knocked down trees and caused dozens of small power outages. Hail as large as golf balls fell southeast of Des Moines, and some brief power outages were reported, the National Weather Service said. Tornadoes were also sighted in eastern Iowa but no injuries were reported.
