New Zealand’s challenger for the America’s Cup left Auckland today after its departure to the United States had been delayed for two days by a strike involving British seamen.

The container ship Discovery Bay, which has on board the yacht New Zealand, left Auckland this afternoon. The crew, members of the British National Union of Seamen, had earlier refused to sail in protest of the stripping of assets from its union in Britain because of illegal picketing. The 90-foot waterline monohull New Zealand is scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles May 22. From there it will be moved by barge to San Diego for the America’s Cup races in September.
