Marsh and Thomas also qualified for the NCAA championships in both the 100 and 200 meters. Marsh won the 100 in 10.11, with Thomas second in 10.23. Thomas won the 200 in 20.18 to break the UCLA school record of 20.20 set by Greg Foster in 1979. Marsh was second in 20.35.

Olympic bronze medalist Earl Bell cleared a lifetime best of 19 feet 3 inches to win the pole vault in a meet at Arkansas State, his alma mater, in Jonesboro, Ark.
