Socker defender Kevin Crow was named the Major Indoor Soccer League defender of the year Wednesday. Crow edged teammate Fernando Clavijo, 48-47, in voting by media representatives from the 11 MISL cities.

Crow also won the award in 1984-85. The Kansas City Comets’ Kim Roentved is the only other two-time winner.

“I’m very flattered and appreciate it,” Crow said.

Crow, a former San Diego State star, led the Sockers with 112 blocked shots in 54 regular-season games and had 7 goals and 8 assists for 15 points.

“I don’t think you should look at statistics when you choose (defender of the year),” Crow said. “It should go to the player who does the best overall job in that position. Leadership, everything. Being part of a solid defense helps.”
