The Mexican government’s AIDS prevention campaign, called immoral by religious groups, has received the backing of a nationwide parents’ group. A statement from the 14-million-member National Assn. of Parents said it “fully supports the government campaign for (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) prevention. Faced with such a serious threat as AIDS. . . , we must use a clear and direct language about topics such as sexual hygiene that have previously been taboo subjects in Mexico.” The government campaign--which includes a videotape urging Mexicans to use a condom during sexual intercourse--has been attacked by critics such as the Catholic Church.
