Julian 10, Midway Baptist 3--Teak ichols hit a grand slam in the sixth inning for Julian (16-6). Woody Haynes hit a two-run double with two out in the fifth to break open a 4-1 game. Danny Lopez and Jason Chadwell also hit home runs for Julian. Jesse Hayner (3-0), the No. 3 pitcher, struck out eight and walked one in six innings to earn the victory.

BOYS’ TENNIS 2-A SEMIFINALS

La Jolla (19-1) moved into the finals by defeating St. Augustine, 6-1. Marco Zuniga of St. Augustine defeated Chad Morse, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, the only loss for La Jolla. La Jolla will play Bishop’s (16-4)--which defeated San Pasqual, 5-2--for the section championship today at 2 p.m. at Morely Field.

3-A QUARTERFINALS

Even though the team’s top singles player, Scott Anderson, was out with the flu, host Mt. Carmel defeated Serra, 6-1. Mt. Carmel’s Bruce Timm filled in for Anderson at No. 1 singles and lost to Serra’s Sean Willett, 6-3, 6-1. Anderson is expected to be back for today’s semifinal match against Patrick Henry, which upset No. 4 Poway, 4-3.
