Local News in Brief : Mission Viejo : Injured Driver Charged After One-Car Accident
A 40-year-old man who was injured when his car careened off Interstate 5 and up an embankment in Mission Viejo was later arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, authorities said Thursday.
The driver, identified as John Albert Bodish of Los Angeles, was in satisfactory condition at Mission Regional Hospital Medical Center in Mission Viejo, a hospital spokeswoman said Thursday.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Alvin R. Yamaguchi, Bodish suffered “major injuries” that included internal wounds, a broken right arm and the loss of “all of his skin off the left forearm.”
Bodish was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash at 11 p.m. Wednesday, Yamaguchi said.
The crash occurred on the northbound freeway near the Alicia Parkway off-ramp. Yamaguchi said Bodish was traveling about 65 m.p.h. when his Nissan Maxima swerved abruptly to the right. The driver lost control of the car and it spun around, struck the asphalt shoulder berm and then skidded up a landscaped slope, Yamaguchi said. He said the car then flipped over and Bodish was thrown part way out the car’s sunroof.
An investigation is continuing.
