Local News in Brief : Prison for Ex-State Official
A former analyst for the state Board of Control was sentenced Thursday to four years in state prison for accepting $30,000 in bribes from crime victims seeking compensation.
Larry Kemble Callahan, 50, of Sacramento, was convicted Feb. 18 on seven counts of bribery by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Gordon Ringer in a non-jury trial.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Lawrence E. Mason said that in 1986 Callahan arranged for a total of $100,000 in compensation for six Los Angeles-area crime victims. The Board of Control administers the compensation program.
The victims “were not entitled to anywhere near that,” Mason said.
