A former University of Minnesota administrator has been indicted on felony charges that he illegally diverted nearly $200,000 in school money to 17 minority students, including 9 former football players.

A Hennepin County grand jury in Minneapolis indicted Luther Darville on three counts of theft by swindle. Darville faces up to 10 years in prison on each count.

Darville, who is at large, was acting head of the school’s Office of Minority and Special Student Affairs until he was fired in April. He had worked for the university since 1978.
