British industrialist Brian Beazer and Shearson Lehman Hutton Inc. faced a new barrier against their $1.7-billion hostile bid for Pittsburgh-based Koppers Co. when U.S. District Judge Manuel Real summoned them to a contempt of court hearing June 6 in Los Angeles. Koppers filed papers earlier in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles accusing Beazer and Shearson of violating the court’s order not to proceed with their $60-per-share tender offer. Echoing allegations lodged previously in federal court in Pittsburgh, Koppers complained that its suitors have continued to advertise for shareholder support and extend their tender offer.
