The Kansas City Royals placed first baseman Steve Balboni and outfielder Thad Bosley on waivers and have purchased the contract of Jerry Don Gleaton from their triple-A farm club in Omaha, Neb.
The Royals asked for waivers for Balboni and Bosley for the purpose of giving them their release.
Balboni’s batting average has fallen to .143 this season, with 2 home runs and 5 runs batted in, compared to .207 for the 1987 season, with 24 home runs and 60 RBIs.
