Celebrating Drink

At the moment when the nation’s print and broadcast media are both agog over the topic of drugs and related violence, Calendar sagaciously assigns three of its writers to celebrate the return of “mixed drinks” (“Drinking It All in at Mason’s,” by Ruth Reichl; “Harry’s in Paris, Chandler Style,” by Peter Mikelbank; “Cocktails Are Hard Drinks,” by Laurie Ochoa, May 22).

No doubt you’ve cheered up the distilling industry and unintentionally illuminated the country’s foremost hypocrisy: Drugs vs. alcohol.

If it ever does occur that drugs are legalized, send Ruthie back to Mason’s so she can assess their newest concoction for us! I wish I had a subscription to your paper; I’d cancel it.
