Southern Section Baseball Playoffs : Sites Selected for Semifinal Matchups
Esperanza High School, trying for its third consecutive appearance in a Southern Section baseball championship game, will play host to Beverly Hills in a 5-A division semifinal at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at El Dorado High in Placentia.
Esperanza (20-8), which finished third in the Empire League and had to play a wild-card game to reach the 32-team playoffs, has won four postseason games to reach the semifinals against Beverly Hills (19-8).
El Toro, which also had to play a wild-card game to reach the playoffs, will play host to fourth-seeded Saddleback at 3:15 Tuesday at UC Irvine in a 3-A division semifinal.
El Toro (17-13) is attempting to become the fifth team from the South Coast League to reach a championship game in the past six years. Saddleback (22-6), the Sea View League’s champion, has advanced to the semifinals for the first time in its history.
