Some Deals on Wheels in Hawaii

Hotels in Hawaii are again offering complimentary rental cars for each day you stay at their facilities while paying regular rates.

Outrigger Hotels, under its Waikiki free-ride program, is extending a free Dollar Rent A Car at any of its 12 hotels in the Waikiki area. The program is available until Dec. 18.

Colony Hotels and Resorts has a condo/car package, Paradise On Wheels, which offers a gratis Dollar car at any of its 17 properties on Maui, Hauai, Oahu, Hawaii and Molokai. This program is in effect until Dec. 23.

Aston Hotels & Resorts is offering a Budget Rent-A-Car at any of its 29 properties, including condominium suite resorts. The room and car offer is valid until Dec. 19.

A free Dollar car comes with rooms at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel on Maui and Hotel King Kamehameha in Kona, under the Free Wheeler Holidays program of Amfac Resorts Hawaii until July 31 and again from Sept. 1 until Dec. 19.

Wardair Hotels Hawaii is offering a Tropical Rent A Car to guests at the Waikiki Banyan Condominium Hotel or Kauai Beach Boy until Dec. 19. Village Resorts is offering a free Tropical Rent A Car auto with every ocean-view and ocean-front room booked through June 30 at the Island on the Beach Hotel at Coconut Plantation on Kauai.

Hilton Hotels in Hawaii is offering a gratis Avis Rent A Car to guests at its Kauai Hilton until Dec. 31, and a Dollar car when you stay at the Kona Hilton until Dec. 15.

The rental cars you get with these programs usually include unlimited mileage and are generally compact models. Some of the cars have automatic shifts and are air-conditioned. Others may not be. Taxes are not included, and such other elements as collision damage waivers and personal accident waivers are optional extras.

Make sure that you ask for the program by name when you make a booking. These plans are all on a space-available basis. Reservations are important.

Budget and Dollar also offer renters coupon booklets with discounts. Dollar’s “Adventure In Dining” booklet has two-for-one coupons at 42 restaurants on the four primary islands, which are provided to persons renting cars. Budget’s booklet offers coupons for admissions to sightseeing attractions, meals and local products.
