Why does TV attempt to mimic former...

Why does TV attempt to mimic former screen and stage epics when the originals make this practically impossible? Case in point: “The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial.” As a longtime fan of “The Caine Mutiny” and its author Herman Wouk, having read the novel and having seen the movie innumerable times, and having attended the New York opening of the play in the ‘50s, I admit I’m a bit biased. After being captivated by Humphrey Bogart’s (movie) and Lloyd Nolan’s (play) Captain Queeg as well as fine supporting casts in both versions, how can I accept what CBS offered without comment?

In my opinion, most of the acting and the entire production in general was sloppy, particularly the final “party” scene. One exception: Eric Bogosian was great as Barney Greenwald, the defense attorney.
