A lone gunman who sustained “multiple gunshot wounds” in a shoot-out with Long Beach police was captured late Thursday night, more than three hours after he shot and critically wounded a 17-year old boy in an apparent domestic dispute.

A police Special Weapons and Tactics Team finally stormed the suspect’s apartment after he went into hiding following the 20-minute shoot-out around 8:30 p.m.

During the shoot-out he fired at police from an apartment window, the sidewalk in front of the apartment and from the apartment roof, said police Lt. Dan Stowe. Police returned the fire.

The suspect was tentatively identified as Alfonso Tapia, 24. He was taken from the scene in handcuffs by SWAT officers from the apartment near 9th Street and Magnolia Avenue.

Details on what precipitated the shooting were not released.

The teen-age victim was taken to St. Mary Medical Center. He was placed in intensive care, a hospital spokeswoman said.
