Twenty Northern Ireland policemen are to face a disciplinary hearing following an inquiry into allegations of a “shoot-to-kill” policy against Irish nationalist guerrillas, police in Belfast said. The officers, at the center of a long-running security dispute that has soured Anglo-Irish relations, range in rank from constable to chief superintendent. The initial inquiry was launched after the 1982 deaths of six unarmed Irish guerrillas at roadblocks and in ambushes. Police would not say what disciplinary action the 20 might face or when the hearing would start.
