Local News in Brief : Huntington Beach : Unidentified Bicyclist Struck, Critically Hurt

An unidentified bicyclist was in critical condition Sunday after he was struck by a car near Newland Street and Hamilton Avenue, Huntington Beach police said.

Police Sgt. Edward Deuel said the man, who carried no identification, was described as about 40 with blond hair and blue eyes. He is 6 feet tall and weighs about 200 pounds, police said.

The victim was hit by a car driven by Penny White, 68, of Costa Mesa, who was making a left from Newland onto Hamilton at the time of the collision.

The impact threw the man into the car’s windshield and then onto the pavement. He may have suffered a skull fracture, police said, adding that the man was not wearing a helmet.

He was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center, where he was in critical condition, police said.

Deuel said the man was riding a lime green 10-speed Mercier bicycle.

The investigation is continuing.
