The Veterans Assistance League has pledged $40,000 to establish a medical fellowship for spinal cord injury research and education at the UC Irvine College of Medicine and the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Long Beach.

Funds from the Lloyd A. Pantages Memorial Fellowship in Neurology will support clinical and research training in neurological problems of spinal cord injury, including aspects of spinal cord regeneration.

The late Pantages, whose family owned a national chain of movie theaters, used to hold private screenings of popular films for spinal cord-injured patients at the VA hospital.
