Cerritos : Water Conservation Urged

The City Council has adopted a voluntary water conservation program intended to reduce Cerritos’ water use by 10%. The conservation plan, advocated by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, calls for city governments and residents to cut water consumption through various measures. They include retrofitting plumbing fixtures with low-flow devices and shutting off decorative fountains unless they use recycled water. Residents are being asked to refrain from watering landscaping with drinkable water during the hottest part of the day, and they are being urged to avoid hosing down driveways or sidewalks.

California is in the second year of a drought, and watersheds throughout the state are critically dry, suffering from stream flows that are about half the normal volume.
