Local News in Brief : Ex-Mayor Will Pay Fine

Former Walnut Mayor Harvey Holden has agreed to pay a $2,000 fine for not reporting $10,000 worth of fill dirt and grading work he received from a developer last year while he was in office.

Holden had voted to approve a proposed housing project next to his Walnut home. After the vote, according to state documents, he suggested that the developer improve the grading on his lot.

The state Fair Political Practices Commission staff concluded that Holden had violated state law when he did not list the work on a required financial disclosure form. An agreement between Holden and the FPPC staff calling for a $2,000 fine, the maximum penalty possible, must be approved by the commission. Holden did not run for reelection to the council in April.
