Dexter Manley, defensive end for the Washington Redskins, will be in New York Friday for a hearing before National Football League officials about suspected substance abuse, said Manley’s agent, Bob Woolf.

Manley, 30, who spent a month in a drug rehabilitation center in Minnesota last year for an admitted alcohol problem and reported cocaine use, triggered the investigation by testing positive in a random drug test, the Washington Post reported.

“They just said they want to make an inquiry on something minor,” Woolf said. “The letter didn’t mention anything about him flunking a drug test.”

In a meeting earlier this year with Commissioner Pete Rozelle, Manley agreed to guidelines that include random drug testing.

Under NFL guidelines, Rozelle can fine, suspend or ban players for drug use as part of his powers to defend the “integrity” of the league.
