LACMA Decorative Objects Come From All Over World

This week the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 5905 Wilshire Blvd., inaugurates its three-part Sunday-for-the-family program with “Objects Tell a Story,” a look at decorative objects from around the world. Events are planned from 1 to 5 p.m., and families can take in several.

Tours of the permanent collection will focus on decorative arts. Docents will gear their chats to children and parents. All the activities are appropriate for children in preschool through grade school, who must attend with their parents.

The highlight of the afternoon is expected to be the sawdust rug, which will be created in the center court by a Guatemalan artist. Sawdust in the rugs is tinted different colors and then arranged into pictures in a traditional art form. This is especially popular during Holy Week in Guatemala, when the carpets are created in public areas. Families may help make the rug.
