Local News in Brief : Westminster : Trustee Resigning From School Board
Westminster Elementary School District Trustee Janis Smith is resigning from the school board, effective Aug. 31, because she is moving outside the district, Supt. Barney Davis said on Friday.
Smith was elected to the board in November and her term would have ended in 1992.
Davis said the school board has voted to appoint a successor to Smith and is seeking applications from interested residents within the elementary school district. To be eligible, a candidate must be at least 18 and a registered voter living within the school district.
School board applications may be obtained at the district administrative offices at 14121 Cedarwood Ave. between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Davis said. Deadline for filing an application is Sept. 12.
Davis said candidates will be interviewed by the school board at a public meeting Sept. 22. The board is scheduled to announce its choice Sept. 29.
The person appointed will serve until the regular school board election in November, 1990. An election will then be held for the final two years of Smith’s term.
