At least 21 more people died as rain poured down on the capital of Sudan on Wednesday, and the Nile rose higher while Khartoum tried to cope with the worst flooding in its history.

Egypt’s state-owned Middle East News Agency said that 18 Sudanese drowned Wednesday when their ferry overturned in the Rahad River. The river is a tributary of the Blue Nile, which joins the White Nile at Khartoum to form the Nile River.

In Omdurman, across the Nile from Khartoum, the agency said three children were killed and dozens injured when a house collapsed because of the flooding, bringing the known death toll in Sudan to more than 90.
