The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department search and rescue team and the California Highway Patrol both learned of the accident shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday, but at first they were told that only two people appeared to be inside the car.

Upon reaching the scene of the accident on Big Tujunga Canyon Road seven miles west of Angeles Forest Highway, they discovered the additional three passengers.
