THE OUTDOORS : Stripers: Alternates for Catfish

Perhaps the best alternative to the superb catfish bite taking place at most Southland reservoirs is the striped bass bite at San Bernardino’s Lake Silverwood and Los Angeles County’s Lake Pyramid.

Anglers at Pyramid are experiencing a vastly improved surface bite for the popular fish to 10 pounds. At Silverwood, the bite is as consistent as it has been all summer. Spanky Potter, an 8-year-old from Rialto, caught a fish weighing 15 pounds, and Richard Both of Ontario landed a 19 3/4-pound striper.
