Lawrence Taylor will not play in the National Football League again until he successfully completes a drug-abuse program, owner Wellington Mara of the New York Giants said Tuesday.

Taylor, a seven-time Pro Bowl linebacker, was suspended Monday for 30 days by the league for violating its drug policy for a second time. He will miss at least the Giants’ first four games this season.

Taylor’s agent, Gary Kovach, said that Taylor has every intention of complying with league rehabilitation guidelines and plans to meet with officials by Friday.
