Doctor Ro Eases to Victory in Los Alamitos Race
Heavily favored Doctor Ro eased to a 1-length victory Friday in the Josies Bar Handicap at Los Alamitos Race Course in a race that was marred by a spill.
Rare Crusader, an 11-1 outsider, broke down nearing the 1/8-pole, throwing jockey Lute Proctor heavily to the ground. Proctor was rushed to Los Alamitos General Hospital where he was being examined.
Doctor Ro, with jockey Kip Didericksen, broke on the lead and despite running a bit erratically, crossed the 550 yards well clear of 14-1 outsider Kicapu Kid. Brents Charger was another length back in third in the field of nine three year olds.
Doctor Ro paid $4.40, $3.40 and $2.80. Kicapu Kid paid $10.20 and $7.20, while Brents Charger returned $7.80.
The $324,000 Denim N Diamonds Futurity, Los Alamitos’ richest race of the summer season, will held tonight.
Liberty Coin is the favorite. Liberty Coin brings the fastest qualifying time of 19.97 into the 400-yard futurity.
