David Lowery threw two touchdown passes to lead Trabuco Hills High School to a season-opening 15-8 victory over Los Amigos Friday at Mission Viejo High School.

Lowery, who completed 12 of 33 passes for 223 yards, completed 9 passes for 163 yards in the second half. He threw for a touchdown in each half.

The Mustang defense, which allowed 123 yards in total offense, intercepted five of quarterback John Morgan’s passes. Two of the interceptions were by safety Tim Manning, who also caught a touchdown pass.

Trabuco Hills took a 6-0 lead with three minutes left in the first quarter on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Lowery to wide receiver Rick Sparks. The score came three plays after Los Amigos punter Kevin Neff shanked a punt for minus three yards to his own 23. A two-point conversion run attempt by Matt Davis failed.

Davis gave Trabuco Hills a 9-0 lead with eight minutes left in the half with a 35-yard field goal. The field goal ended a 56-yard, 9-play drive, which was aided by passes of 24 and 17 yards from Lowery to Chad DeYoung and Manning.

Trabuco Hills, which sacked Morgan four times during the first half, also intercepted two of his passes in that span.
