Surf, Bodyboard Finals Today at Wild Rivers
Mike Lambresi of Oceanside heads the list of 16 qualifiers in the Pontiac surfing and bodyboarding event at Wild Rivers theme park in Irvine.
The tournament is the 12th of 15 stops on the U.S. Pro Tour of Surfing and Bodyboarding.
Quarterfinal, semifinal and final-round action begins today at 7. However, the park will not be open to the public until 11 a.m. The bodyboarding final is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. with the surfing final to follow immediately.
Kelly Slater from Cocoa Beach, Fla, the defending champion, joined Lambresi in advancing Saturday. Lambresi, who won the U.S. Pro Tour last year, is the points leader again this season. Dino Andino of San Clemente, who is second behind Lambresi, also advanced Saturday.
Other local qualifiers are Todd Miller of Newport Beach, John Parmenter of Huntington Beach and Noah Budroe of Huntington Beach.
