The Cal State Northridge women’s volleyball team might have struggled with Division II schools this weekend, but the Lady Matadors have had no problem beating Division I opponents.

CSUN beat visiting United States International University, 15-10, 15-7, 15-8, Tuesday night for its second victory over a Division I squad in as many tries.

Northridge (2-1) beat Loyola Marymount in three games last week but struggled to finish fifth in the UC Davis tournament last weekend, losing to Cal State Sacramento.

Kathleen Dixon led CSUN with 8 kills and a .533 hitting percentage Tuesday and twin Marianne added 6 kills at a .462 clip.

Outside hitter Franci Bowman had six kills for the Lady Matadors, the top-ranked Division II team in the nation according to Volleyball Monthly and the No. 3 squad in this week’s Tachikara coaches’ poll.

“I feel more confident in relation to how we stack up to the top Division II teams,” Coach Walt Ker said. “I feel pretty good about where we are.”
