British Hostage’s Kin Send Messages of Love and Hope
BEIRUT — Family and friends of British hostage John McCarthy, seized in Lebanon 29 months ago, sent messages of love and hope to him through a Lebanese newspaper Tuesday.
The half-page of messages, with a photograph of McCarthy, appeared on an inside page of the leftist daily As Safir.
One, from McCarthy’s parents, said: “Darling John, longing to have you home again. Thinking of you every second. Keep your spirits up. Love.”
McCarthy, a television cameraman from London, was seized along Beirut’s airport highway on April 17, 1986. No group has claimed responsibility for his abduction. He is one of 17 Westerners missing and believed held by pro-Iranian militants in Lebanon.
