A View From One Side of the Bonita Unified School District Fence : Mayor Replies to Group Chairman

I’m glad Greg O’Sullivan, chairman of Citizens for Responsible Development, is willing to let the record speak for itself (Times, Sept. 15). Because in less than five months the current (San Gabriel) City Council has addressed 11 of the 21 platform issues for which CFRD campaigned so hard during the April election.

Let’s put it to the voters and find out how they feel about all the non-growth issues that some CFRD advocates have placed so high on their priority list.

I will continue to talk and meet with members of the public, including the CFRD leadership. If the good ol’ boy club is what I’m guilty of associating with, perhaps O’Sullivan should review the election results once more and perhaps he will realize CFRD won the election.

The Taiwanese Sister City Program, which has been the subject of so much controversy, was adopted in San Gabriel to promote harmony between the new Americans from the Pacific Rim countries and those who have lived and worked in San Gabriel for years. The desire is to have events that will promote harmony in the community between various racial groups in San Gabriel. Even so, it has been policy in the United States to never allow the American flag to fly below any other flag. With authority comes responsibility which some now seem to have trouble accepting.
