Bellflower : School Funding Initiative Endorsed

The Bellflower Unified School District board has endorsed Proposition 98, the so-called School Funding for Instructional Improvement and Accountability Initiative, saying that California public schools “must have a stable, ongoing source of funding.”

The resolution, passed at last week’s board meeting, encourages voters to approve the initiative, which it says would “provide a solid foundation for the future of California’s children.”

Noting that California has the largest class size averages in the country, board members said that the initiative will give California the opportunity to “have the finest public school system in the nation.”

The initiative on the Nov. 8 ballot would provide an annual cost-of-living adjustment and funding to reflect the growth in student enrollment, and provide additional funding for classroom programs, district officials said. The initiative also requires accountability and information programs “so that the public will know how its tax dollars are being spent,” according to the resolution.
