Compton : Consultant to Help Lure Grants

A one-year, $30,000 contract has been awarded to a private consultant to help Compton lure grant money from government as well as private sources such as foundations and corporations.

The City Council voted Tuesday to hire Jerry Mundel of Tandem Training Associates in Los Angeles to write a minimum of 10 grant proposals during the coming year and to conduct training programs for city staff and community agency representatives who want to master the art of grantsmanship.

In a memo to the council, Timothy E. Iverson, director of the city’s Economic and Grants Management Services, which recommended hiring the consultant, said the city needs a grants writer to “maximize the number of grant requests” sent to funding sources.
