Phoenix Cardinals quarterback Neil Lomax, who took his first cortisone shot Monday to aid his arthritic left hip, said he is starting to wonder if his playing days in the National Football League are numbered.

“I’m more worried about Neil Lomax 5 to 10 years from now than Neil Lomax the football player,” Lomax said. “An arthritic condition is nothing but bad news.”

Lomax, an 8-year pro and 2-time Pro Bowl player, led the league in passing last season with 3,387 yards. The day after the Cardinals moved to Phoenix, he signed a 4-year, $5-million contract.
