Five Local Surfers Go Forward in Ocean Beach Tournament

Trevor Christ of Encinitas led a group of five San Diego-area surfers who advanced in qualifying heats during the first day of the U.S. Pro Surfing tour at Ocean Beach Thursday.
Joining Christ in the second round are Mark Thurston, Danny Connor and Donny Wilson of San Diego and Justin Poston of Mission Beach.

Joe Simpson of San Diego defeated John McGuiness of Des Moines, Iowa, 4-3, Thursday in the second round of match play in the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship at the Milwaukee Country Club.
