The starting times for baseball’s playoff games next Wednesday have been changed to accommodate the telecast of the vice presidential debate.

The start of the first game of the American League Championship Series, scheduled for the home of the East Division winner, was moved from 5:28 p.m., PDT, to 10:20 a.m. Game 2 of the National League Championship Series at Dodger Stadium will start at 7:08 p.m., PDT, instead of 12:08.

The start of the 90-minute vice presidential debate between Sens. Lloyd Bentsen and Dan Quayle was moved from 6 p.m., PDT, to 5:30 p.m.

“Although these changes will create a significant inconvenience to the clubs, leagues and baseball fans everywhere, baseball recognizes its responsibility in this election year to allow the Democratic and Republican parties access to a national forum in prime time,” Commissioner Peter Ueberroth said in a statement.

ABC will televise both series.
