A Polish sailboat is being forced to remain outside San Francisco’s Golden Gate for a week because it arrived ahead of a schedule filed with the State Department, the U.S. Coast Guard reported. The 42-foot Stomil showed up after a passage from Honolulu, where the boat and crew of four were ousted because of a lack of State Department approval, a Coast Guard spokesman said. “The vessel was granted entry for the 26th of October, and they arrived early,” Lt. Richard Kermond added. Some of the crew are being allowed to pick up food with private assistance, but the boat has to remain at sea. Its position is about 2 1/2 miles offshore. Vessels from Soviet Bloc countries must be cleared by the State Department at least two weeks before berthing in U.S. ports, the Coast Guard said.
