High School Roundup : Jorgensen Runs to Title in Mt. SAC Cross-Country
Kira Jorgensen of Rancho Buena Vista High School won the girls’ individual sweepstakes title at the Mt. San Antonio Invitational cross-country meet Saturday.
Jorgensen got out to a 13-second lead at the mile mark and covered the hilly 3-mile course in 17 minutes 32 seconds. Jamie Park of Santa Barbara was second in 17:48, and Suzanne Castruita of West Covina was third in 18:19.
Poway finished third in the boys’ team sweepstakes race behind Christian Brothers Academy High School of Lincroft, N.J. (about 50 miles south of New York City) and Camarillo.

Holtville 24, Army-Navy Academy 18--Alex Wells threw 2 touchdown passes to Jason Brown in the fourth quarter and visiting Holtville (6-0, 2-0) rallied from an 18-7 deficit after three quarters.
Army-Navy Academy (2-3, 0-2) took a 6-0 lead when Juan Munoz returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. Rick Smith’s 85-yard interception return made 18-7 going to the fourth quarter. But Wells hit Brown scoring passes of 4 yards to make it 18-14 and 8 yards with 2:05 left to complete the comeback.
City Western League
Kearny High School’s football team was forced to forfeit 2 earlier victories because it used an ineligible player, it was announced. Kearny victories of 35-6 over San Diego Oct. 7 and 36-6 over Clairemont Oct. 14 have been reversed. Kearny is now 2-5, 1-1 in the league.
